It’s tough to talk about values without sounding like everyone else. So often the values spouted on the page mean nothing in reality.
But at EllisDon it’s true, values make a difference. Here having values actually means something.
Because when it comes right down to it we’re people who have one thing in common – we hold to a certain set of core values. And these values drive this company. They define it. They mould it and shape it.
One value that is absolutely vital for every person who works here to have is trust. If you’re part of our team you’ve placed your trust in us. But we’ve also placed our trust in you. We give every person who works here a great deal of freedom. We give them the freedom and the support to do their job right, to make our clients successful and to create new opportunities.
If you’ve ever experienced the raw boldness and enthusiasm of a person starting a new business then you’ll understand what we mean by entrepreneurial enthusiasm. This value may not come naturally to some people but when a person experiences it, it takes hold like wildfire. EllisDon is an entrepreneurial company and we encourage this spirit in everyone who works here. We want our people to hold on to this value and feed it because great and innovative things can happen as a result. If you see opportunities to think creatively, do things better or to innovate then seize them.
A value that is closely tied to the entrepreneurial spirit is individual initiative. It takes guts to step up and take initiative but we rely on our people to do just that. Often you will be closer to a client, the problem and the opportunities than others within the company. So we value those who will act intelligently in the interests of our clients and the company.
One of the key factors to our success is the fact that EllisDon is a company that is upfront and honest with our employees, clients and subtrades. It is critical that we hold on to this and that it is practiced everyday. We value complete openness from the top of the company right to the bottom. This means the company’s goals, strategies, business plans, results, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities are shared with everyone who works here.
There is one final value that we hold to and that is mutual accountability. This may sound like an excuse to bring down the law but it isn’t. What we mean by this is that you’re accountable to the person that works beside you. We’re all in this boat together and we rely on each other to maintain it and keep it going in the right direction. A person who works here must value and respect that others here are relying on them.
These are our core values. They are what keep EllisDon on the right path, they keep us moving forward and they are the catalyst for taking bold leaps ahead.
