EllisDon Breaks Ground on Clayton Community Centre

On Thursday, July 5th, EllisDon took part in the ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the new Clayton Community Centre in Surrey, BC.As the Construction Manager, EllisDon will erect the brand new 76,000-square foot community centre, which will include a library, gymnasium, child care facility, art and music studios, several multi-purpose rooms, and a rehearsal hall on the main floor. The second level will contain additional library space, a fitness centre and more multi-purpose rooms."The facility has an ambitious sustainability goal of achieving Passive House Certification, making it on track to become Canada’s largest Passive House facility to date and the first Passive House community centre of its type in North America." said Jessika MacDonald, Intern Architect AIBC at HCMA Architecture + Design.Passive house certification is a rigorous quality assurance process which confirms that the building has been designed to achieve high levels of occupant comfort and health and energy performance.The design has been shortlisted for a World Architecture Festival award in the Civic Future Projects.Clayton Community Centre is expected to be completed by mid-2020.
