So, what really happens at a company when its people realize that what is valued most is their ability to think, rather than their ability to conform? 

Where they are given maximum freedom to do their jobs, even if it makes them a bit uncomfortable?  One thing that happens is this: Innovations happen so often that the CEO has to read the draft of the Annual Report just to learn about some of them.
