Canada's Infrastructure Needs to be Put Right Again

Over the past year, our civil division has practically doubled. We've continued to grow our expertise and resources in this area witheverything from engineers, to estimators, project managers to superintendents. And though we've operated mainly in Ontario, the expression, "Go West" has never rung more true, as we now have a Western Canada division.

We've achieved some real milestones in Ontario transit.

Our portfolio of high profile civil projects expands as we make rapid transit a reality in York Region. We're the design builder of vivaNext'sRapidways; dedicated lanes for a modern bus system. We're also working with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to modernize and improve stations in the Greater Toronto Area, with additional emergency exits, restoration and upgrading of architectural finishes, sustainability innovations like a green roof for the Victoria Park Bus Terminal, and improved accessibility. We are also adding a second platform at Union Station, doubling the size of the current one and allowing for optimal passenger flow, making this station the most operationally efficient in the country. These initiatives are all the more complex because we make sure passenger traffic doesn't stop for construction.

We're investing in our civil future.

EllisDon has invested in our civil division because as opportunities move forward, so do we. And not to be outdone, we recently acquired 107 year-old, heavy civil construction firm Looby Construction. Why? Because they've been specialists in bridge, culvert and dam construction and repair since 1904, successfully completing over 1000 heavy civil projects throughout Ontario. Best of all, they have a reputation for quality work, technical expertise and an excellent safety record. And that sounded remarkably like another company we know.

We like working with the best.

"Looby Construction was particularly attractive to us because it shares the same values, vision and relationship philosophy that drives EllisDon," said Geoff Smith, President & CEO, EllisDon. "They are very open, highly professional, people-oriented firm that takes great pride in its work, its culture and its relationships. Looby has built its business on sound and stable financial performance."

"We are very excited to be joining the EllisDon family," said Joe Looby.  "This is an amazing opportunity for our company while maintaining our current location and employee base."
