The new Colchester East Hants Health Centre is expected to open in November, providing an impressive array of healthcare options for more than 73,000 residents of Colchester East Hants.
"We're in official countdown mode, and it's very exciting," says Krista Wood, Director of Public Relations for the Colchester East Hants Health Authority. "There's still a lot of work happening at the site, and we have a lot to do here — getting everyone ready for the transition."
The 124-bed facility will be 368,000 square feet — about 30 per cent larger than the existing Colchester Regional Hospital. It will provide surgical, medical, mental health, intensive care, maternal child services, diagnostic and treatment services, emergency and ambulatory care services. It will also boast a new palliative care unit, a helipad for rapid transport, and enhanced privacy and infection control.
Located just east of exit 13 on Highway 102, the Colchester East Hants Health Centre has been under construction with the EllisDon Corporation since 2008. The structure is expected to be finished this spring, allowing for preparations before the big move in November.
