EllisDon is proud to share that the Toronto Tunnel Partners (EllisDon and STRABAG) have achieved substantial completion on the Highway 401 and 409 Rail Tunnel project.

Part of the Kitchener line for the GO Expansion program, our team has been constructing the twin tunnels since 2019 without disrupting the 21 live traffic lanes directly above. At substantial completion, approximately 73,500 square metres of debris was excavated, with hauled away material to fill 8,000 dump trucks. Over 12,600 square metres of shotcrete was applied and they used enough cement to fill about 1,500 cement trucks!Congratulations to all teams involved on this incredible achievement.
