The Story
Located on the east coast of Canada, Irving Shipbuilding Inc. awarded EllisDon the contract to construct a new shipyard facility, and transform the site to include two new piers and marine loading areas.
The scope included the installation of specialized equipment to facilitate the construction of Canada’s new combatant vessels, over 400,000 SF of adjacent marine structures and off-site structures that support the construction of new navy ships (as part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy) which replaced existing navy combat ships, and 8,000 metric tonnes of structural steel that was over half a kilometre in length.
EllisDon undertook a fast tracked approach to meet the requirements of the Federal shipbuilding program, and to provide Irving Shipbuilding Inc. with the resources to prepare for the projected growth, which in turn will generate significant economic benefits for Canada’s shipbuilding sector and supporting industries over the coming decades.
