The Story
The Integrated Team Solutions consortium, led by EllisDon Corporation, included Fengate Capital Management Ltd.,and Honeywell Building Solutions, in partnership with Fraser Health Authority. EllisDon provided all services related to the design and construction of the facility. The program was delivered in two key components: construction of the new Emergency Department by June 28, 2013 and completion of the Critical Care Tower (CCT) on March 31, 2014. In addition to its involvement in the financing arrangements for this project, EllisDon provided all services related to the design and construction of the facility.

David McFarlane, Vice President and Area Manager, EllisDon Vancouver

The 400,000 square foot project added 151 acute care beds to the hospital campus, growing it to a 650 bed regional hospital by 2014. The Emergency Department was designed to include segregated treatment areas for Pediatric and Mental Health patients. Other new and expanded areas of the CCT included three levels of below grade parking, six levels of medical space, consisting of a Laboratory, NICU, ICU, Medical-Surgical Unit, High Acuity Unit, and a satellite University of British Columbia School of Medicine and a rooftop Heliport.

The Surrey Memorial Hospital Redevelopment and expansion provides the residents of Surrey, other Fraser Health communities and residents from across the province with an increased capacity and improved quality of health care services in a modern care environment. The redevelopment and expansion also helped reduce emergency room congestion, increased the number of acute care beds, established a centre of excellence in care for high-risk newborns, created a clinical academic campus for Surrey and helped attract and retain health care professionals.
