Facilities Management (FM) BIM

EllisDon champions Facility Management for our clients. BIM in Facility Management brings great value to the client and the building’s operations management team due to the collection of information archived into one single 3D database. Throughout the construction process, the design model transitions into an as-built model due to the ongoing coordination, updates and changes. With our in-house capabilities, for Facility Management, data information can be incorporated into the as-built model. This then becomes an FM model that will host all facility management resources and information required to maintain the building in question through a user-friendly platform.

Surrey Memorial Hospital, Surrey, British Columbia

Facility Management
$500M, Health Care, Completion in 2014

151 acute care beds were added to the Surrey Memorial Hospital Campus, growing it to a 650 bed regional hospital, totaling to 400,000 square feet. This project included a new Emergency Department that was designed to accommodate the various emergency patient groups that are currently being treated on the campus. The Surrey Memorial Hospital now has a dedicated space for the treatment of pediatric patients, mental health patients, and covered access for emergency vehicles. A long term return on investment on building operations as the facility matures is expected as data had been continually collected during design & construction for operations, sustainment and contingency planning. Through our team’s utilization of BIM on this project we fulfilled our client’s desire to quickly produce a future proof facility.

Strathcona Community Hospital, Sherwood Park, Alberta

Facility Management

With the help of the VDC team at EllisDon, the FM model was electronically populated of all documentation and shop drawings required for each element and component of the hospital. The data could then be viewed with a well-established and user friendly platform for the facility management team, post-construction.

Woodstock General Hospital, Woodstock, Ontario

Design-Build-Finance-Maintain Project
$163M, Health Care, Completion in 2011

This infrastructure project involved financing, constructing and hard facilities management of the hospital over a 30 year concession term. The scope of work was to build the facility which is an excess of 350,000 square feet of gross floor space and manage the hospital equipment procurement and transition. The utilization of BIM processes was imperative to successfully delivering this three-storey facility which includes a diagnostic imaging (DI) department that uses the latest in digital imaging technologies for diagnosis and to reduce patient wait times, among other complex systems that needed to be coordinated and maintained in a 3D environment.

Our VDC team aided in the renovation and complete tenant improvement on the 5000 square foot second floor of this project. The mechanical features included changing the boilers and replacing five smaller rooftop units with two larger variations. Electrical features included installing a new switch gear for the entire building. Structural reinforcement also took place for the new rooftop units. Our BIM processes were integral in providing quick and seamless solutions on this project.
