EllisDon Selected as the Preferred Proponent for Centre for Mental Health and Substance Use

On March 31st , EllisDon was selected as the preferred proponent to design and build the new Centre for Mental Health and Addiction by the Provincial Health Services Authority for British Columbia.With close to $101 million invested by The Ministry of Health, this purpose-built facility will provide adults with complex and severe substance abuse and mental health challenges access to specialized inpatient treatment services.Replacing the current Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction, the new facility will align with BC’s Housing renewal and master plan for the redevelopment of the Riverview Lands.“Our government is committed to ensuring that people with serious substance use and mental health challenges receive the specialized care and treatment they need,” said Health Minister Terry Lake.“Selecting the preferred proponent brings us another step forward in creating a space on the Riverview lands that is dedicated to improving the lives of people facing these challenges.”The facility will have 105 beds and will incorporate natural light and views of the Riverview Lands and surrounding area among many other therapeutic treatment elements. The design will aim to qualify for LEED® Gold Certification.Construction is expected to begin in fall 2017 and be completed by late 2019.
