One of the most significant construction milestones on the Highway 1 improvement project between Calgary and Cochrane is now complete.
Over the course of a three-week operation, bridge girders were successfully installed above the Trans-Canada Highway at Range Road 33, creating the structural framework for a new overpass that will serve one of Western Canada's busiest transportation corridors.
“At EllisDon, we're proud to build projects that strengthen communities, and this bridge is a great example of that,” said Matthew Barnett, Project Superintendent, EllisDon. “As the region continues to grow, it will help improve connectivity, support safer travel, and make journeys more efficient for the thousands of people who use this corridor every day. Reaching this milestone brings us one step closer to delivering those long-term benefits to the community."
One of the most complex phases of construction to date, the installation required extensive planning and coordination to complete safely and successfully.
With the girders now in place, work will continue on bridge deck construction, post-tensioning, wingwall construction, and diaphragm forming as the project progresses toward completion.
For the more than 40,000 motorists who travel this section of Highway 1 every day, the newly installed structure represents a visible sign of progress and an important investment in the region's transportation network. As construction advances, the bridge is beginning to take shape as infrastructure that will support safer, more efficient travel for the growing communities west of Calgary.
