Setting the Standard: EllisDon’s Phil Jones Recognized with CSA Award of Merit

Phil Jones, EllisDon’s Vice President, Engineering & Logistics, has received a Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Award of Merit in recognition of his contributions to advancing industry standards and safety across Canada.

The peer-nominated award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and improvement of standards that help shape industries nationwide. Phil received the honour for his leadership as Chair of the CSA Z248 Committee, which establishes Canada’s national standard for tower cranes.

Over the past nine years, Phil has helped guide a major update to the standard during a period of evolving regulations and differing provincial requirements, including changes introduced in British Columbia and Ontario. Working alongside industry professionals, regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders, the committee developed a more consistent, safety-focused standard that supports tower crane operations across Canada.

Those qualities have earned him tremendous respect across our industry, and this recognition is a reflection of that.”

At EllisDon, Phil leads the company’s construction engineering and site logistics teams, helping project teams solve complex construction challenges and plan the safest and most efficient ways to build. 

More than 20 years after joining EllisDon as an intern, Phil’s achievement serves as a testament to the impact industry leaders can have when they share expertise, build consensus, and contribute to the advancement of the construction sector.
