Steps for Life: Supporting Safer Workplaces and Stronger Communities
Each Spring, our EllisDon offices gather to participate in Steps for Life events across the country. This year, teams raised over $24,000 in support of Threads for Life, an organization that helps support families as they navigate the healing process after workplace fatalities, serious injuries, or occupational illnesses.
“Steps for Life is about standing with those who are facing the unimaginable,” said Brenna Pulford, HSE Coordinator and the London Team Captain. “It provides a crucial lifeline for families navigating the grief and loss of a loved one. It’s not just about remembrance, but also about helping people move forward and rebuild their lives with the strength and support of their community.”
By joining walks in cities across Canada(including Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Mississauga, London, Thunder Bay, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver) we extend our impact beyond our role as a National Sponsor.
“While monetary donations are essential to supporting Threads of Life and their programs, the personal support can be just as impactful,” said David Boutilier, HSE Manager, Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Buildings Team Captain. “Seeing a sea of yellow shirts walking together serves as a powerful symbol, showing families that they aren’t alone and that there are people who care-that EllisDon cares.”
Participating in Steps for Life is a meaningful way to show our commitment to safety awareness and supporting those in our communities. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we do everything in our power to send everyone home safely to their families. That’s part of what Steps for Life aims to do – awareness and prevention – and we’re all responsible for looking out for each other.
“We’re leading by example, not just on our job sites, but in how we support others as well,” said Barbara Costa Chavez, HSE Coordinator and the Edmonton Team Captain. “I’mvery proudto represent EllisDon in Steps for Life. I believe in what we’re doing and in our position as safety leaders – Steps for Life is a piece of what we do to make our industry safer.”
