The Story
A masterpiece of architectural design, the National Gallery of Canada combines exposed concrete, glass, and stone to create a visually stunning and functional space. The building features five unique gallery areas, each designed in a distinct architectural style, with extensive use of architectural glass to flood the interiors with natural light. Light shafts from the roof bring daylight to lower floors, while water elements enhance the ambiance of the exhibition spaces.
Sophisticated mechanical systems and environmental controls ensure the preservation of priceless artwork within the expansive, open gallery areas. Mansard-style metal roofing and meticulous attention to detail in the concrete finishes further elevate the building’s iconic design.
