EllisDon Partners with MLSE Foundation to Bring Basketball Court to Sheguiandah First Nation

The MLSE Foundation ‘Change the Game’ campaign (https://www.mlsefoundation.org/) is dedicated to raising funds and awareness to address systemic barriers preventing youth from reaching their potential. Recognizing the ability of sports to change lives, the campaign aims to create greater access to free sports programs, empower community building and create opportunities for leadership focused on equity, diversity and inclusion.

"This project has been one my team and I can be proud of. We look forward to being a leader in the construction industry, promoting change by raising awareness and addressing systemic barriers through our work and approach. We are committed to growing and expanding our efforts in working with Indigenous communities," said Randy Reymer, Vice President and Area Manager of Southwestern Ontario, EllisDon.

EllisDon’s Southwestern Ontario Area team donated $20,000 to the project along with services and supplies, including engineering and a Fire Ring. In addition, through assembling a group of like-minded organizations, EllisDon ensured that almost half of the scope of work was completed by local Indigenous-owned companies. Together with their partners and these donations, EllisDon delivered a complete project, including the basketball court, skateboard park, fire pit, and outdoor storage structure.

Officially open to the public as of October 28th, 2022, we hope that this new recreation area will promote inclusion and bring the families, friends, and community of the Sheguiandah First Nation together.
