The Story

A dramatic overnight transformation, the QEW and Seventh Street Interchange project redefined efficiency and innovation in Ontario highway infrastructure. In just 10 hours, EllisDon demolished the province’s largest bridge ever removed in a single night, making way for a new structure raised and lengthened to accommodate a 10-lane highway and improved vertical clearance. The project introduced Ontario’s first interchange with roundabouts at both ramp terminals, eliminating the need for signalized intersections. Alongside bridge construction, the team completed drainage upgrades, sidewalk reconstruction, and heritage-sensitive design elements, all while recycling concrete and steel from the original structure to support future projects.
