Seneca College King Campus Expansion

The Story

The King Campus Expansion represents the largest revitalization in Seneca College’s history. Developed to meet growing demand for hands‑on learning environments and modern student spaces, the project expanded academic and recreational facilities while preserving the natural character of the surrounding Greenbelt and Oak Ridges Moraine.

The 200,000 square foot expansion creates space for 1,450 additional students and new programming across health care, technology, and the arts. The project added 25 classrooms, computer labs, specialty labs for healthcare training, a library, learning commons, and dedicated study areas. It also introduced a vibrant 30,000 square foot athletic and recreation centre featuring a gymnasium, fitness facilities, an indoor climbing wall, and flexible event spaces. 

The expansion provides new opportunities for program growth and community partnerships. Careful planning and collaboration ensured that new facilities aligned with Seneca’s goals for sustainable development, cultural integration, and enhanced campus life.

Development and Equity

EllisDon Capital Inc. served as the financial advisor for the project, guiding it from the request for qualifications through financial close.

The project involved the design, construction, and financing of new academic and student life facilities at Seneca’s King Campus. EllisDon coordinated all phases of work and delivered a modern campus environment that reflects the first phase of Seneca’s long‑term King Campus Master Plan.

Sustainability

Located within a protected natural landscape, the campus was designed to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings. The new facility uses reclaimed water to reduce environmental impact and was built with a focus on healthy indoor environments, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and the efficient use of energy, water, and other resources.
