Blue Water Bridge - Approach and Rehabilitation

The Story

A feat of engineering precision and cross-border collaboration, the Blue Water Bridge expansion project enhances one of North America’s busiest international crossings. The project included a 550-meter, 15-span elevated approach on the Canadian side, supported by 13 concrete piers and over 400 piles. EllisDon managed complex construction logistics, including on-site precasting of 30 concrete box girders and a jacking system to stabilize the existing bridge during ramp construction. The team also led a major rehabilitation of the original span, replacing the concrete deck, reinforcing steel structures, and upgrading electrical and road systems. Completed ahead of schedule, the project stands as a model of infrastructure excellence and binational cooperation.
