The Story

Redefining the concept of community spaces, the Clayton Community Centre in Surrey’s Clayton neighborhood unites recreation, library, arts, and park services under one roof. Featuring a library, gymnasium, fitness rooms, arts spaces, preschool/daycare facilities, youth gathering areas, and outdoor spaces with advanced stormwater management, the center sets a new standard for accessibility and sustainability. Designed with extensive public input, it also preserves the natural beauty of Clayton Park.

As the largest non-residential Passive House facility in Canada, the center leads in energy efficiency, cutting carbon emissions by 98%. Its steel and concrete structure supports a striking glue-laminated roof, reflecting the City of Surrey’s dedication to sustainability through Passive House Certification, Wood First Policy, and environmental innovation.
