Equinix – Data Center Upgrade

The Story

EllisDon was selected by Equinix to deliver several data center projects across Canada, supporting the client’s growing infrastructure needs in Kamloops, Calgary, and Toronto. Over the course of this multi-year engagement, EllisDon has developed a deep understanding of Equinix’s operational standards, technical requirements, and delivery expectations.

Kamloops, B.C. – KA1 Data Center

In Kamloops, EllisDon completed the Phase II fit-out of Data Hall 150, which included mechanical and electrical infrastructure rooms, telecom spaces, and operational back-of-house areas. The project also involved upgrading the uninterrupted power supply system by replacing nine 500 kW units with six 750 kW units, all completed without impacting the facility’s critical load.

Calgary, Alberta – CL3 Data Center

At the CL3 site in Calgary, EllisDon constructed a building addition to house Data Hall 535 and completed the fit-out to support 465 racks. The project also included upgrades to Data Halls 534 and 536, with new cooling systems, raised access flooring, and electrical distribution equipment installed across all three halls. Data Hall 535 includes 17,000 square feet of white space, two generators rated at 3.5 MW each, three chillers with 800 tons of usable cooling, eight computer room air handler units, four UPS systems rated at 1.26 MW, and eight power distribution units rated at 450 kVA.

Toronto, Ontario – TR2 Data Center

In Toronto, EllisDon delivered Phases III and IV of the TR2 facility. Phase III involved the fit-out of second-floor colocation space, which included a 2.5 MW generator, a 2 MW UPS, sixteen power distribution units, a 600-ton chiller and cooling tower, and eight computer room air handler units. Phase IV added a 16,500 square foot data hall with infrastructure to support 310 racks, including a second set of electrical and mechanical systems.
