The Story

Enhancing accessibility and safety, the Louise McKinney Riverfront Park upgrade introduces a flexible timber staircase and boardwalk across Edmonton’s river valley slope. Spanning 12.9 hectares, the park features the Capital Health Trail, 100th Street Funicular, and multiple public spaces.

Construction included earthworks, concrete foundations, and drainage systems to support the new structures. A barrier-free MSE path was built from slope top to toe, with slope stabilization and surface water berms ensuring long-term integrity. Custom guardrails were added to protect city vehicles and snow-clearing equipment. All work was carefully staged to avoid disruption to public use and park programming.
