The Story

Stackt Market is a three-storey outdoor marketplace in downtown Toronto, created by stacking and connecting repurposed shipping containers to form a vibrant and modular retail destination. The ground level features shops and eateries, while the upper levels provide architectural massing and visual connectivity across the site. A snake-like arrangement of containers links the east and west ends, and a striking vertical tower with a cantilevered container at the Bathurst Street entrance enhances the site’s presence. Designed as a temporary activation of underutilized land, the project transforms a former industrial site once used for coal storage into a lively urban space. Site development included utilities, landscaping, container foundations, and installation, all carefully integrated to support the market’s flexible and community-focused design.
