TTC Easier Access Projects

EllisDon Civil’s Special Projects team has supported the delivery of accessibility upgrades under the TTC’s Easier Access Phase III Program across multiple active subway stations, such as Sherbourne, Lawrence, and Castle Frank Stations. Work has been undertaken within operating transit environments, requiring coordination with TTC teams to maintain station functionality and passenger movement throughout construction.

The scope of work includes the installation of elevators providing access between street, concourse, and platform levels, along with barrier-free entrances incorporating automatic doors and enhanced wayfinding features. Structural modifications to existing station elements such as stairwells, entrances, and ancillary spaces have been completed to meet current accessibility requirements.

Associated upgrades have also included architectural improvements and the integration of mechanical and electrical systems such as elevator machine rooms, lighting, and communications infrastructure.

Work is delivered within constrained and high-traffic environments using phased construction, temporary works, and coordination of utilities and existing infrastructure. The Special Projects team works with TTC construction, operations, and inspection staff through planning, construction, and commissioning to align with operational constraints, safety requirements, and technical standards.
