The Story

Located in Ottawa’s iconic Parliamentary Precinct, the Wellington Building is a seven-story, 47,295-square-meter heritage landmark originally built in the 1920s and acquired by the Crown in 1973. As part of the Long Term Vision Plan (LTVP) to preserve Canada’s historic assets, this extensive renovation transforms the building into modern swing space for Senate and House of Commons members, complete with parliamentary offices and multipurpose rooms for committee and caucus meetings. Blending history with innovation, the redesign features a breathtaking 5,000 square foot skylight with 152 custom glass panels, a library adorned with copper recycled from the original roof, and a stunning glazed atrium. Embodying a seamless fusion of heritage preservation, sustainability, and functionality, the Wellington Building supports the needs of Parliament and the public for generations to come.
