The Story

The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) is a purpose-built facility designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the West Niagara region. Located behind the original 70-year-old hospital, the redevelopment continues its legacy through an 80 per cent increase in the hospital’s overall size.

The result of a Design-Build-Finance agreement, EllisDon Infrastructure WLMH Inc. led the successful delivery of WLMH in coordination with the project team: Energy& Digital Services, EllisDon Capital, subcontractors, and partners.

The new hospital features a three-storey concrete structure with a steel penthouse and a modern exterior of curtain wall, stone, and composite panels.

Key features of the new facility include:

  • 55 acute inpatient beds
  • 100 per cent private rooms
  • Expanded outpatient (ambulatory) care space for enhanced consultation services closer to home
  • Advanced diagnostics, including X-ray, mammography, echocardiography, ultrasound, and a CT scanner
  • A new 24-hour Emergency Department
  • Maternal and newborn services
  • Day surgical services, including endoscopy and minor procedures

The Community Surgery program will focus on low-risk, same-day procedures in gynecology, urology, general surgery, and endoscopy. This initiative will expand surgical capacity across Hamilton Health Sciences, improving access and reducing wait times.

Development and Equity

EllisDon Capital Inc. (EDC) served as Financial Advisor for the WLMH project, guiding it through to Financial Close. EDC developed a cost-effective financing strategy, led lender negotiations, and provided a full suite of advisory services, including financial modelling and debt arrangement. Once named Preferred Proponent, EDC acted as the liaison between the consortium and the procuring authority, managing all financing-related matters.

Energy & Digital Services

Also heavily involved in the WLMH project was EllisDon’s Energy and Digital Services (EDS) team, which worked alongside our construction team and was responsible for the design and configuration of most of the ICAT scope. This included the access control system, audio visual system, CCTV system, integration engine (EKO), intercom system, intrusion detection system, nurse call system, real-time locating system and wired duress. It was the first time that EDS was responsible for the delivery of the overall electronic security system.

Furniture, Equipment & Design

Our Furniture, Equipment & Design (FED) team also played a big part in getting WLMH set for patients from day one. The team sourced over 12,000 individual pieces of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) for a variety of specialized spaces, such as operating rooms and patient bedrooms. Over the past year, they collaborated with vendors and the EllisDon site team to ensure WLMH’s clinical teams were well-prepared for furniture and equipment delivery and ready to support patients and staff.
