The vivaNext H2 East and West Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) expansion is a 12.6-kilometre transit project in York Region that enhances mobility along Highway 7 through Vaughan and Richmond Hill with dedicated centre-running bus lanes, 10 stations, 20 platforms, and transit signal priority systems. The project was delivered within a constrained urban corridor while maintaining continuous traffic flow and pedestrian access.
The scope included the construction, widening, and rehabilitation of five bridge structures, including a 180-metre span over Highway 400, as well as culvert extensions and in-water works. Significant earthworks and land development supported corridor widening through excavation, grading, and streetscape improvements, alongside environmental mitigation measures associated with tree removals and habitat protection.
Construction required extensive coordination across transit and transportation systems, as well as complex utility relocation and protection works, including hydro and telecommunications infrastructure. Building Information Modeling (BIM) was used to support coordination and minimize conflicts within the densely serviced corridor. Water infrastructure works included the installation and relocation of watermains, including a 1.5-kilometre trenchless installation using directional drilling to reduce traffic disruption, as well as storm sewer realignment and sanitary system coordination
