Shaping Tomorrow’s Safety Standards: Tiyasha Iyare Honored with COS Young Achievers Award

Tiyasha Iyare, a Coordinator with EllisDon's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) team, has been recognized with the Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine’s Young Achievers Award—an honor celebrating rising safety professionals under 35 who are making significant contributions to workplace health and safety across Canada.

Since joining the Toronto Civil Safety team, Iyare has quickly become a key figure in our HSE efforts, particularly with our self-perform crews on the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project in Mississauga. Her leadership and attention to detail have earned her the trust of both her team and the Operations group.

“Tiyasha sees a challenge and steps up without hesitation,” said Douglas Van Moorsel, Director, HSE, EllisDon. “She’s proactive, thoughtful, and always looking for ways to improve safety outcomes, not just for her team, but across the entire project.”

Iyare’s journey is a powerful example of EllisDon’s Culture of Care in action: safety is not just a priority, but a shared responsibility and a commitment to one another’s well-being. Her work reflects the belief that keeping people safe on construction sites starts with building trust, fostering open communication, and ensuring every worker feels supported and empowered to speak up about safety.

“Tiyasha leads by example,” said Anshul Tapwal, Manager, HSE, EllisDon. “She’s built a reputation as someone who listens, collaborates, and delivers. Her ability to connect with people and drive safe work practices makes her an emerging safety leader with EllisDon.”

Congratulations once again to Tiyasha Iyare. This recognition not only celebrates her accomplishments but also underscores EllisDon’s commitment to empowering the next generation of safety leaders.
