Ashbridge Bay - Site Soil Remediation

EllisDon completed large-scale site remediation and preparation works at the Ashbridge’s Bay landfill to support development of a new transit maintenance and storage facility.

The project included excavation and removal of approximately 743,000 metric tonnes of impacted soil, with materials classified, managed, and transported to licensed disposal facilities in accordance with Ministry of the Environment requirements. An average of 147 truckloads per day was coordinated to maintain production while minimizing impacts to surrounding roadways. 

Following excavation, EllisDon completed subgrade preparation and ground improvement, including installation of approximately 5,400 rammed aggregate piers to support future development. Environmental controls, including dust monitoring, truck washing, and street cleaning, were implemented throughout construction. 

Unexpected site conditions were managed through resequencing of work, allowing progress to continue while maintaining schedule. The site was completed with final grading, landscaping, and erosion control, delivering a fully prepared development footprint.
