The Story
Spanning 930 metres over the Bow River, the 4th Avenue Flyover Bridge is undergoing a major rehabilitation to improve safety, durability, and traffic flow into Calgary’s downtown core. The project includes deck surface replacement, curb and barrier upgrades, expansion joint replacement, and extensive concrete repairs.
EllisDon will self-perform demolition and restoration under strict environmental constraints, including in-stream work to restore the centre pier using a custom steel dry box installed by commercial divers. Active traffic will be maintained throughout, with phased improvements to surfacing, approach slabs, crack sealing, and pier structures—all designed to extend the bridge’s service life while minimizing disruption.
