The Story

The Alto Residences is a terraced eight-storey, mixed-use building with 90 residential rental units situated in Toronto's "Little Portugal" neighbourhood. The building’s terraced exterior design and brick finish offer a fresh take on the area's look that still manages to blend with the community's existing aesthetic. Designed to cater to a variety of tenants and their needs, the open-access layout hosts several room options –including those customized for disabled individuals – such as studio, one-bedroom, one-bedroom and den, two-bedroom, two-bedroom and den, and three bedroom models. In addition to this, residents have access to three levels of parking – encased in a shoring wall and sitting on a caisson foundation – that host 90 vehicle parking spots and 116 bicycle parking spots. The building's Mechanical Penthouse, which includes the Generator Room, and all penthouse equipment will be set on a floating slab floor, to eliminate vibrations. The building concept makes the best use of a relatively small property, but considering the size of the site, and the building’s extension to the lot boundary, which reduces the space for lay-down, site offices, bins etc., proper coordination was required to handle personnel, equipment and material delivery.
