EllisDon was selected to design and build the new Centre for Mental Health and Addiction by the Provincial Health Services Authority for British Columbia. The facility will integrate three existing programs: the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre, the Provincial Assessment Centre, and the Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction improving operations and overall health and safety of clients, while allowing for synergistic therapies between programs.
The 3-storey, 105 bed facility will set a new stanadard in healthy community design by incorporating natural light and views of the Riverview Lands and surrounding area among many other therapeutic treatment elements. The Centre for Mental Health and Addition is located on the 244 acres of Riverview Lands; home to approximately 1,800 mature trees. Accommodating the high priority trees on the site defined the final design of the facility.
The core guiding design and construction principles reflect the values of the community and the Kwikwetlem First Nation. The facility integrates wellness aspects of community design wherever feasible, such as landscaping, public art, and, community and wellness gardens.
