The Story
Designed to meet the demands of one of Alberta’s fastest-growing regions, the newly completed Cochrane Interchange enhances traffic flow, safety, and long-term connectivity. The project includes widening Highway 1A to four lanes, a new CPKC Rail overpass, partial cloverleaf ramps, and multi-use pathways for pedestrians and cyclists.
Strategic design adjustments—such as phased construction of MSE retaining walls—eliminated the need for temporary structures, improving efficiency and reducing waste. Despite weather challenges and live traffic conditions, the team maintained momentum through agile coordination and innovative solutions, including temporary roundabouts and off-season heating systems.
