The Story

EllisDon and their partner, DPR Construction, constructed a new ground up data centre north of the Greater Toronto Area. EllisDon and DPR’s involvement, in the pre-construction phase, caused the owner to terminate their incumbent provider and engage our team. The project involved the construction of a Tier 3 plus enterprise data center. The 183,000 square foot project included 52,000 square feet of white space that required the support of the entire infrastructure. Phase 1 involved 4.4MW of critical load across 26,000 square feet of raised floor white space, at 2N redundancy, within the 183,000 square foot footprint. This was completed in sixteen months. Phase 2 involved another 4.4MW of critical load across an additional 26,000 square feet of raised floor white space. This was completed in three months after Phase 1.

Interim milestones, which could not be compromised, such as the data hall, administration area, and LAN room space turnovers, were accommodated for client needs. The data center was built to LEED® Platinum certification and has a blueprint that meets the industry’s best-in-class power usage effectiveness, with a target ratio of 1.6. Some LEED® features include a 243kW solar array designed to meet the energy needs of the administration area, heat loss retrieval, from the data hall, for snow melting, and electric car charging stations.
