The Story

Working together with Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd., EDII took on the challenge of repairing a sloped section of Highway 585 outside Trochu, Alberta. Due to the nature of the work (underpinning and restabilizing 550m of horizontal road surface, embankment underpinning and deep drainage water management), and EllisDon Industrial's experience on a similar project near Abraham Lake, the project was referred to as “Mini-Abraham”. An interesting feature of the site conditions and geography is the large panorama of the Red Deer River flowing through the ancient badlands. The very narrow shoulders of the single lane highway are used frequently by local farmers and the recreational campers visiting the Tollman Bridge Campground and the Dry Island Buffalo Jump.
