The Story
Jamieson Place was developed by Bentall Investment Management, acting on behalf of the owner British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC). Located in the heart of Calgary’s downtown centre, the complex consists of a 38-storey, 920,000 square foot commercial development, a five-level, 240,000 square foot underground parkade, and a three-storey podium. The lower three levels contain retail space, a winter garden and public spaces. The structure includes cast-in-place reinforced concrete clad in curtain wall, granite, and metal panels.
Achievements
LEED Gold
The building connects to adjacent buildings via the 15th floor covered walkway (the world’s most extensive pedestrian skywalk system” network, provides a short walk to the C-Train and dozens of bus routes, includes secured indoor storage for over 170 bicycles, and contains a fitness area with shower and change rooms.
Constructing a building of this scale in downtown Calgary posed significant challenges. The construction site was surrounded by other buildings, live traffic, and pedestrian traffic. The site’s constraints could easily have led to project delays and increased cost. However, the EllisDon team avoided this by carefully coordinating its building efforts with all stakeholders. With proper planning and by preordering materials, construction was completed to the client’s “highest quality and safety standards.”
