The Story

The Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation (“JCPI”) at Mohawk College project involved the construction of a new net-zero energy building between two existing wings of the college. The building includes two lecture halls, two traditional classrooms, seven laboratories, a library, nine student collaboration rooms, and hosts the offices for the Centre for Climate Change Management. The building connects to a third wing of the college on four floors and showcases an iconic canopy roof with forked columns.

In May 2018, the JCPI became the second project in Canada and the first institutional building to earn a Zero Carbon Building – Design certification through the Canada Green Building Council’s cutting-edge Zero Carbon Building (“ZCB”) Program. The project also received ZCB certification in the Performance category, becoming the first project in Canada to receive certification in both Performance and Design categories.
