The Story
The transformative new BC Cancer centre at the Royal Inland Hospital campus in Kamloops hasreached a significant milestone with the start of construction, bringing expanded cancer care access to the Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap region. Located on the Westlands site at Royal Inland Hospital, the five-storey cancer centre will span 200,000 square feet and offer a wide range of services, including: radiation therapy and planning, a CT simulator, and an outpatient ambulatory-care unit with 10 exam rooms and two consultation rooms. The facility will also feature an MRI suite, patient arrival and check-in areas, and three linear accelerator vaults designed to safely contain radiation used in cancer treatment. In collaboration with Indigenous partners, the centre will include a sacred space for patients, caregivers, and staff, created to support traditional ceremonies and healing practices.
To improve accessibility, the existing hospital will undergo upgrades, including an expanded pharmacy and the relocation of the community oncology network clinic to the main floor, while a new 470-stall parkade will be built to enhance access for patients and visitors. Developed as part of British Columbia’s 10-year Cancer Action Plan, the BC Cancer centre in Kamloops Cancer will serve as a cornerstone of inclusive, compassionate, and forward-looking healthcare.
