The Story
EllisDon constructed two residence buildings to give future students of Memorial University a new place to eat, sleep, and study. The new 500-bed residence consists of two separate, six-storey buildings with reinforced concrete masonry. They include multipurpose rooms, common study rooms, accessible bedrooms, resident supervisors’ apartments, and laundry and services facilities. Each of the rooms are private and include a single bed and study area. Every two rooms share common shower and washroom facilities within the dorm suite. Both residence buildings conveniently connect the students to the central hub of campus through an enclosed glazed elevated walkways.
Achievement
LEED Silver Certification
The interior of the residence buildings consist of painted drywall and concrete, ceiling tile, and tiled bathrooms. The exterior consists of concrete masonry units, and vinyl windows on the upper floors, and the ground floor contains curtain wall windows.
This project has successfully achieved LEED® Silver Certification.
