The Story
Meno-Ya-Win is an Oji-Cree term that means health, wellness and well-being. It also refers to being in a state of wholeness in the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical makeup of a person.
The hospital is a unique partnership created by a four party agreement, which consists of the Governments of Canada, Ontario, the Town of Sioux Lookout and the Nishnawbe Aski Nation. The new hospital now services North West Ontario which is the largest service area in the Province (equivalent to the size of France) and has a population of 35,000.
Highlights of the hospital facility and services managed by Meno-Ya-Win include:
• Assembly of offsite pre-fabricated components
• Management and coordination of the extensive MEP systems - Medical Gas,
HVAC, ICT, Security, Redundant Electrical Systems and Generators
• 60 beds, with emergency, surgery, and other acute care services
• Diagnostic and treatment services of diagnostic imaging, laboratory, pharmacy and physiotherapy
• Ambulatory care and clinical care consulting services consistent with primary health care model for health care delivery
• Support services including dietary, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance and materials management The hospitalis set in a Health Park which includes a hostel and a future longterm health facility Strengthened in patient mental health services, expanded chronic care services and new services of respite and palliative care
• Facilities for first nations ceremonies for smudging and burning of sweet grass, a kitchen for non inspected meat and traditional healing have been incorporated into the design of this facility
