The Millwoods Library is a 50,000 SF, two-storey facility that brings the City of Edmonton’s public library system into the modern era. The facility houses a library with four reading rooms, a community room, four quiet study rooms and a children’s reading section that leads to an outside reading area. The second floor of the library contains a large multi-purpose room, games room, arts and crafts rooms, a commercial kitchen and an administration area. The City of Edmonton required EllisDon to follow the Alberta Environment Construction Plan (AECP) to help ensure that the project had a minimal effect on the surrounding environment. The EllisDon team not only adhered to the AECP, but also helped the project achieve LEED Silver Certification. One interesting sustainability feature of this facility is use of solar panels.
