The Natural History Museum (“NHM”) project consists of the design and delivery of a Natural History Museum, located in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island Cultural District. High-quality architecture and landscape design will be important aspects of the project.
NHM will feature natural history specimens, engaging audio-visual interactives, and themed environments from the region and around the world. From a central atrium space, visitors will journey to major permanent exhibition galleries as well as flexible, rotating, temporary galleries. The project will also include an immersive theatre, dedicated children’s gallery, and possibly a research facility.
EllisDon was appointed by the client to provide project management and design management services for the project, providing advice and assistance in the management and administration of the Project. EllisDon will act as the Client’s Design Manager throughout the Project Design stages, and will also assume the role of engineer under the construction contract.
The project will be located in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island Cultural District on Saadiyat Island, one of the 200 islands in the Arabian Gulf, off the coast of Abu Dhabi. The Saadiyat Cultural District is defined by iconic museums, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum and Manarat Al Saadiyat, all of which form the basis of the Museum Quarter.
NHM seeks to add to the cultural importqnce of the Saadiyat Cultural District, by creating a vibrant civic destination with a cohesive and inspiring vision, while respecting the overall character of the surrounding master plan. The project seeks to establish itself as a leader in visitor engagement, entertainment and education.
