The Story

The Peter Lougheed Centre (“PLC”) - Emergency, Mental Health and Lab Redevelopment project involves the renovation of the Medical Devices Reprocessing Department (“MDRD”). It also includes the design-assist, decant, decommission and construct of the MDRD at level 0 (basement) of the PLC Main Building and East Tower.

The project consists of an additional 16,146 square feet to the emergency department, which will include a rapid response laboratory and a new 12-bed mental health intensive care unit. The emergency department will now house 49 beds and new areas for trauma and triage. In addition, ambulance drop-off will be closer to the emergency unit.

The current MDRD will be decommissioned after the new MDRD becomes operational.
