The Story

The Saugeen Shores - McEwing Bridge Replacement project involved the removal of the existing, condemned bridge over Mill Creek, located at Sideroad 18/19 near the Town of Port Elgin, Ontario, and the subsequent installation of its replacement.

Looby Construction Inc., part of the EllisDon Group of Companies, completed the removal of the existing bridge structure in February of 2021. After a brief demobilization from site during the spring half-load restriction period, work resumed in April.

The new installation is a 35m-long, single-span structural steel bridge with a steel H-pile foundation, reinforced concrete abutments, and a concrete deck. H-pile beams are commonly used in the construction of bridges, to ensure
even distribution of weight over a wider area.

In October 2021, Looby reached substantial completion of the new McEwing Bridge.
