The Story

The South West Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care is a 233,000 SF, three-storey, 89-private-bed, post disaster psychiatric hospital located on an existing mental health facility campus. The facility receives its patients through the judicial system, which means that the facility contains very stringent security requirements and systems. The patient bed units and corridor walls contain highly insulated walls that are constructed with heavy duty steel studs and impact resistant drywall. The facility includes a chapel with a labyrinth, three secure courtyards and a rooftop courtyard for the patients.
