The Story

The Square One South Expansion Project includes a range of upgrades set to elevate the status of Ontario’s largest mall. Having successfully completed work in similar environments in the past, EllisDon is in an ideal position to expertly coordinate work in the midst of ongoing mall operations, while keeping up with the demands of a fast-track schedule and aggressive tenant turnover rate.

The expansion provides this retail giant with a new main entrance and a 60-foot high glass-clad rotunda, a shell for 21 new stores, an extended corridor by The Bay, and revamped lighting, drywall and flooring. Elevators and escalators were replaced, and low-hanging trusses near The Gap were removed. Overall expansion work seamlessly connected the existing shopping centre, maintaining all original patron exits, and feature finishes used in recent renovations. The expansion includes the addition of two levels of underground parking with 684 new parking spaces. The upper level of this new build holds a 29,685 square-foot recreational park with benches and trees.
