The Story

The Stackt project is located at 28 Bathurst Street; at the intersection of Bathurst and Front Street in Toronto, Ontario. The Project is conceptualized to be a temporary shipping container market place that utilizes undeveloped land in the city, prior to development, as a way to activate communities. The property is a 100,000 sq ft piece of land and was historically used in the early 1900’s to store coal in two large gasometers.

The Stackt Market is made of re-purposed shipping containers, stacked to form an outdoor shipping container market place. The ground floor plane of the containers will contain occupied space, with the second and third-floor containers providing architectural massing features. The second-floor containers are placed along the top of the ground floor containers in a ‘snake’ like shape, which architecturally connects the east side of the site with the west side of the site. Additionally, there are three-story stacked containers on Bathurst Street, along with a “Tower feature entrance” (shipping container upright on its end, with a horizontal container fully cantilevered atop), to provide the project and the site with a greater presence to the community.
