The Story

The TD Tower is an 18-floor commercial office tower built in 1974 located in downtown Halifax. EllisDon was awarded the contract which encompassed an expansion, renovation and remodeling. The scope of work includeded replacing the existing exterior glass with new high performance glass, new high efficiency mechanical and electrical systems, which reduces operating costs, and three new storeys added to the existing roof.

Achievement

LEED Gold Certification

A new green roof reduces the heat effect, which reduces the temperature of the building in the summer months. Individual offices use heating ventilation and air conditioning after normal business hours without having to run the entire building system, providing further energy efficiency. The existing exterior glass was replaced with new high-performance glazing. Glass awnings generate electricity from the sun.

The expanded building maintains the historic Macara-Barnstead building façade on Granville Street. Bicycle parking is available for tenants. This building is Halifax’s largest class A smart building. This project is targeting LEED Gold (Core and Shell) certification.
