The Story

EllisDon has had a continuous and trusted relationship with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority since 1991. The Main Terminal 3 Modifications Project includes the reconfiguration of the US Customs and Border Protection Agency (US CBP) area on the Departures Level to meet new regulatory requirements; the expansion of the existing bag claim area on the Arrivals Level by expansion into the existing PIL area; the reconfiguration and expansion of the Departures Level passenger check-in and pre-board screening facilities; the reconfiguration and expansion of the Departures Level retail and food and beverage facilities and the relocation of the GTAA support and tenant areas as required.

Within the Main Terminal 3 Project, the Baggage Handling System was overhauled, including inbound and outbound systems, along with requirements at new check-in counters, oversize baggage conveyors, the Baggage Information Weight ID System (“BIWIS”), bag drops at the reconfigured US CBP area, new baggage carousels, and International to Transborder and Domestic transfer. The new Baggage Handling System includes the replacement of the existing five-level baggage screening system with a three-level bag screening facility, both for Transborder sector and for the Domestic/International sector.

The Terminal 3 Satellite Terminal, known as Pier A is located to the southwest of Terminal 3. It is linked to Pier B by a tunnel that is under the apron. Pier A renovations were performed to increase the operational flexibility and included the implementation of the GTAA thematic design, building system modifications and energy and utility upgrades along with the general re-activation of the building.
