The Story

The five-storey 250,000 square feet building embodies the theme of “Science on Display” by including fully glazed labs and classrooms and placing them around a grand ‘social stair’, which serves as the heart of the building. The building also has seminar rooms and individual study spaces for over 1,000 students. Many of the rooms have the flexibility to transform into multidisciplinary labs or hands-on learning environments, which focus on energy and environmental studies.

Achievements

LEED Platinum

Despite the challenges, the project was delivered to the University of Calgary on time and under budget, for the 2011 Academic Year. We have enjoyed working with EllisDon and are very pleased with their overall performance.

This state-of-the-art facility responds to the necessity for modern, high calibre undergraduate learning, and provides opportunities for hands-on and experiential learning in both individual and collaborative settings. It further complements the progressive learning culture developed for the science and engineering faculties at the University of Calgary.
