The Story

The York University Schulich School of Business Expansion Project involved the construction of a new academic wing to the Seymour Schulich Building at York University. The addition includes a range of academic spaces primarily focusing on Schulich’s expanding research activities as well as the offices and research facilities for doctoral students; a home for the school’s emerging Centres of Excellence; and am array of study, social and amenity spaces for MBA students, graduate students and visiting faculty.

The new wing also includes more student break-out rooms, seminar rooms and classroom capacity in several configurations. This new wing ameliorates certain conditions in the main building where there has been severe overcrowding and allows students to leverage the existing facilities with more ease.

The project achieved LEED Gold Certification in March of 2021, utilizing passive solar preheating of mechanical ventilation and minimization of solar heat gain to attain an ultra-low energy footprint.
